Dude wins the Crown

Sergio Garcia, a gay student, beats out all the female candidates running for prom queen this year at Fairfax High School. His campaign started out as a bit of a stunt, but it ended up generating dialogue about gender roles on the L.A. campus. He went on to give an incredible speech to the voting class:
"At one time, prom may have been a big popularity contest where the best-looking guy or girl were crowned king and queen. Things have changed and it's no longer just about who has the most friends or who wears the coolest clothes," Garcia told the crowd of seniors. "Sure, I'm not your typical prom queen candidate. There's more to me than meets the eye."
and with that, He won. Congrats Sergio !!

7.1 Earthquake hit's Honduras

Hearing this news was really not the way I wanted to start off my Birthday morning.
A magnitude 7.1 Earthquake has hit Honduras sending the very poverty filled country into a frenzy. Thousand of houses have been demolished and a tsunami watch has been placed. Aside from worrying about all my family which currently lives there, I am also worried about the country in general as Honduras has the most amount of non active volcanos in central america, literally thousands sitting in the many hills waiting to erupt. Hopefully this earthquake will not cause any natural disasters to go their way.
Click here to read an updated report and please throw some prayers out to everyone there.

Es La Virgen Guey

Turns out Jermaine dupri got himself a new tattoo on his right torso. It's a tattoo of His long time girlfriend Janet Jackson. Now this isn't her name, or just her face, it's a tat of Janet in the form of the Virgin Mary. Now the consensus is that once a person gets a tat of their significant other then the relationship goes south. So the legend goes. Word on the streets is that JD says that the tat is a belated birthday gift to his woman, who had her 43th birthday earlier this month.
Does it count if the tat has a religious feel? Should we begin the countdown to the demise oft his relationship? Wha do you think?

Biden takes a funny dig at Barack
"What am I gonna tell the president?" Biden said as a gust of wind knocked down his left teleprompter. "I'm gonna tell him his teleprompter is broken. What will he do then?"
The off-handed quip immediately drew laughter and some the loudest cheers of day from the graduates
Obama has long been criticized from Republicans for at times appearing over reliant on a teleprompter, even during short and informal speeches. During the White House Correspondents Association dinner earlier this month, the president himself poked fun at his penchant for using a teleprompter.
"You know I had an entire speech prepared for this wonderful occasion, but now that I am here, I am going to try something a little different — I am going to speak from the heart," Obama said jokingly as his teleprompter rose from the floor.

Punch Out

The tittle says it all .... It's ok ladies, I'll explain:
Back in the 80's Nintendo came out with a game called "Punch Out" Where you play as a character who is an up an coming boxer named Little Mac. Later Nintendo came out with Super Punch Out for the Super Nintendo. Now they have updated the game for the Wii. Don't expect brand new characters or all new features, this is basically an updated version of the game. Mike Tyson is not the final character in this one like the original.
Either way, I NEED to get this.

Sonia Sotomayor becomes first Latina nominated to the Supreme Court!
In great news today, President Barack Obama has announced that he is nominating Sonia Sotomayor to be the next judge to be welcomed into the supreme court and replace retiring Justice David Souter, who announced this month he would step down when the court's current session ends this summer.
She will become the first Latina to ever be nominated into the supreme court, which currently only has one female member. Sonia is originally from NY and comes from very humble means, Overall the need of a women on staff was very much needed but the fact that we have a Latin women who comes from a very real background- is great. This will hopefully bring some much needed balance to the court system.
check out some more info after the jump ...
--Sotomayor, who is of Puerto Rican descent, rose from humble beginnings at a housing project in the South Bronx and went on to attend Princeton University and Yale Law School.
--She has minimal personal assets compared with many of her judicial colleagues; a 2007 financial disclosure form showed her with a checking and savings account valued at between $50,000 and $115,000.
--Supporters say her appointment history, along with what they call her moderate-liberal views, would give her some bipartisan backing in the Senate.
--A senior White House official said that Sotomayor was "nominated by George Bush -- then Bill Clinton -- [and has] more judicial experience than anyone sitting on the court had at the time they were nominated."
Another senior administration official said that Obama "was looking for someone with a balance of skills: very, very smart; independent thinker; highly regarded for integrity and commitment to the law. He found all of those things with her, including his goal of selecting someone with the empathy factor -- real world, practical experience and understanding of how the law affects real people."

Vinylmation

The new series of Vinylmation figures dropped on May 22, 2009. Though they are calling it the Park series 2, it is technically the third installment of figures to be released. What Disney has done is it took established artist and had them paint a figure to match a theme in the park. Obviously I posted "The Lion King", "Toy Story' and "Snow White".
Check out more after the jump ...
The figures are available in 3" and 9" sizes. The 9" figures differ from the 3" so you're not buying larger version of the small ones. The twist is that the 3" come in a "blind" package form which mean that you don't know what you are getting and there is the possibility that you'll get doubles if you don't buy a box. If you buy a box then a box comes with 24 figures, but there's only one "mystery" chaser
Check out the other figures Here

Work Hard, Play Hard ... literally

This is seriously the BEST marketing I have heard in some time. I can't even take from it, check out the yahoo news article:
"The recession might be a little less painful for some Americans, who won't lose their prescription medications if they lose their jobs.Pfizer Inc. said Thursday it will give away more than 70 of its most widely prescribed drugs, including Lipitor and Viagra, for up to a year to people who have lost jobs since Jan. 1 and have been taking the drug for three months or more. The announcement comes as the unemployment rate topped 8.9 percent in April.Pfizer stands to benefit, too — by keeping its customers, and with a tax write-off that will cover much of the cost of the donations. The move also buys the world's largest drugmaker some good will as Washington looks to overhaul the health care system."
That is pretty damn awesome, lol. At least now all those men being laid off from older VP's to the younger dudes with a sad pee wee will still be able to get laid ... or atleast have the abilty to. lol, Ciiiiaaaaoooo !!!

Kris Allen wins American Idol

Can't say I am mad at this, I believe of the two- he was the one that was more capable of becoming a HUGE pop star. Not to take away from Adam Lambert at all- but he is a rock/broadway baby and he will succeed in that arena greatly. I watched this season religiously and although my top 2 seeds, Allison and Gokey, didn't make it- Kris was in my 3rd place position. So Congrats !!!
Below is a performance of Kris at home, this is the song that made me start taking him seriously. I think it is pretty great, check it out.

Violence in Tijuana Escalates
I remember the days when we used to all jump in the car and take a drive down to Mexico for some fun, cheap parties. Well, those days have come and gone as the drug trafficking and violence in Tijuana (the border town in Mexico) have greatly escalated. News coming out of Baja today is that four young Latinos who crossed into Tijuana for a night of partying were found murdered in the border city, U.S. officials confirmed yesterday.
U.S. consulate in Tijuana identified the victims as Brianna Hernandez, 19, Carmen Jimena Ramos, 20, Oscar Jorge Garcia, 23, and Luis Antonio Gamez III, 21. They were found tied up in a van—their bodies beaten, stabbed and strangled to death—last Saturday, but their deaths were not immediately announced because the murders were under investigation. A friend told the victim's parents that they were headed to party in nightclubs in Tijuana last Thursday night, but the group was reported missing the next day when none of them answered their cell phones.
check out the rest of the story after the jump ...
Unfortunately, their deaths are just the latest in a growing number of violent deaths that have plagued the border city of Tijuana for the last several months. Authorities point to an ongoing turf war between two of Mexico's leading drug cartels as the reason for most of the violence. Fermin Gomez, an assistant state prosecutor in Baja California investigating the crimes, shared that relatives had confirmed that one of the victims was acquainted with some local drug traffickers.
This is just wrong. People need to understand that even though your only going 30 minutes away, your still in a foreign country where ANYTHING can happen. Prayers go out to their families, I hope they get some answers to these senseless acts.

Art in New York

If you happen to be in New York, you need to check out the exhibit being offered at Casa Frela Gallery. The pieces being presented is titled, False Idols : Perspectives on Latina/Hispanic/Chicana women, an exhibition of Photographs and Photography based Mixed Media inspired by misconceptions and truths of Latina identity. check out the description:
"The show tackles head on the idea of what is a Latina, Hispanic and Chicana woman through a modern and current interpretation of self and imposed identity. The idea of what a Latina, Hispanic and Chicana woman represents runs the gamut of the traditional to the abstract. With photographs that touch upon the sacred, religious iconography; to Teflon impermeable super heroine status to the fragility and suffocating doll like womanhood thrust upon us. "
Check out more information after the jump ....
"In this exhibition the untrue archetypes have fallen away and demonstrate that we are not the Carmen Mirandaesque girls with baskets of fruit toppling over, nor the hot and spicy variety of women as Hollywood has pegged us to be. The show highlights new perceptions and new trends in how Hispanics are seeing themselves and in turn how others are perceiving us. The basal open question left for the viewer is where is the Latina, Hispanic and Chicana woman headed as the soon to be new female majority here in the United States of America."
