Toyota/Lexus Recall

Toyota motor corp stated that beginning Tuesday they will begin a recall of 3.8 million Vehicles in the United States. This is due to a poorly designed and engineered floor mat that cause the accelerators to get stuck and lead to a crash. This included popular cars such as Camry, IS350 and Prius. Toyota said that they are still working with the big wigs at the (NHTSA) National Highway Traffic safety Administration to find a solution to the problem. Basically they are saying to remove the mat and not replace it with something else.

Here's a list for the cars affected by this because ya'll know you drive a Camry and not some Bentley or Porsche.

The recall will affect:

  • 2007-2010 model year Toyota Camry
  • 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon
  • 2004-2009 Toyota Prius
  • 2005-2010 Tacoma
  • 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra
  • 2007-2010 Lexus ES350
  • 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and IS350.

Murs talks on the Female MCs......

Hearing men talk about female MCs is like hearing them talk about abortion (just go with it) it is a touchy subject that women have an insight into that men just can't speak to with out it sounding controlling and like assholes. Yes there are plenty of reasons why being a female MC would be hard, 99% of those reasons being based around "how men are". So while I appreciated Murs trying to example why the Hip Hop traveling tour Rock the Bells went one more year with out ONE female is alil hard to hear.

"No female with self-respect can rap." Ouch Murs! I can see his point that rap is still very much about men for men run by men but don't undermine so many females that have found their voice in that art form and will continue to do so. Siiiiiigh.

You watch the clip, thoughts? Angry Rants?

Man Shops Globe - Could Be Good!

The Sundance Channel has plenty of great programs to make themselves stand out among the cable options. The kept the trend going with their new show Man Shops Globe premiering next Wednesday at 10pm. The idea behind this show is to follow Keith Johnson, buyer for Anthropology around the world as he finds amazing things to add to the store. Fashion kids of the world rejoice!

Buying jobs are tough the get and few pursue them once they realize how much budgeting and math is really involved. However for the few the stick it out and do it, i know you are excited to see your side of the business celebrated! I am excited to see how this show progresses. It has potential to be a great way to know where to hunt whenever you can afford to leave the states or nothing else an inspiration to a budding fashionista!

F-Bomb By Slate

SNL (Saturday Night Live) Newbie Jenny Slate apparently dropped the F-bomb in a skit on the Saturday night live season premier. This was during a skit about Biker chicks where she says "You stood up for yourself, and I F-ing love you for that". You see the word registers in her head and she makes a face like she just threw up in her mouth. (which she didn't)
After the smoke cleared it looks like executive producer Lorne Michaels and NBC spokes woman Sharon Pannozzo said that Slate will not be fired. Michaels told the Washington post "it was literally her first time on the show. There was nothing dirty, just a slip of the tongue. It was 'frickin', frickin', frickin' ' and then boom! The pain that Jenny is going through is, I'm sure, considerably worse than that experienced by anybody who saw it."
So expect to see Jenny Slate to comeback and live to joke another day.

UN General Assembly Day

Yesterday the world watched as our leaders meet in the NYC to talk about global issues. If you didn't get a chance to watch any of the speeches you really missed out. Not often to we in the US get a chance to hear leaders from smaller nation speech openly and frankly about what matters to them, we are usually given some second hand recap with some CNN or Fox spin.

I spent alot of today watching speeches. I was able to watch about 4 speeches outside of the highly covered ones from Obama and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The general tone was one we have all heard before; Poor nations of the world are tired of being poor and even more tired of rich nations keeping them poor. They are tired of being over looked and they are tired of not being heard. Sound familiar? Check out what was way less familiar after the jump...

What was unexpected and shocking was when about half of the general assmbly walked out on Ahmadinejad's speech. Most of the speech was total bullshit; claiming Iran to be one of the most democrate nations on earth. Some of it hit alil closer to home. Not of it was well accepted.

Second was the hour long speech given by Muammar al-Gaddafi. It was loong loooong rant, more so than a offical speech but not with out it's highlights. He criticized the UN for not fairly serving the nations that need them the most. He called out western nations for using words like democracy to push their own agendas. It might have taken him and hour to prove his point but he proved it. Right after a strong speech from Obama asking the nations in the UN to step up be about action, Gaddafi quickly came back with "how?"

Here is a video quickly recaping the assembly. let me know who you saw speak today, what did you think??

Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) New Track - 11th Dimension

Julian Casablancas is the sweet heart lead singer of the NY rock darling group The Strokes. Until now he was the only member of the band to not put out work outside the band. Very unusual, it is fair to say the lead singer is usually the first to jump ship. It has been worth the wait though because this track is pretty far from all the other releases that stayed in same vain as the Strokes or even went alil softer. Julian took that retro Strokes sound and danced it up for this number. Check it out for yourself below!

Lads Love Drunk Amy / Brazilian Girls +Diplo explain why

How does she do it!? Amy Winehouse last year's hottest commodity and now just someone me and Dlisted obsess over, was spotted out in London recently making the rounds at local pubs. Nothing new, but what STILL gets me is how she manages to lure in the fellas!! Every logical reason why a man would be attracted to her has been long since gone. If you put her next to Megan Fox (both crazy mind you) it would not even be a question who men would stalk..or would it?? I have a feeling there is some very weird pied piper shit going on, where Amy sings Rehab down the alleys of London and men coming running like rats.

Fashion Night Out NYC

About two weeks ago many city's across the world held Fashion Night out-- A night for the fashion industry to excite consumer's purchases once again and gain some confidence in the product that is being sold. Many retailers didn't only offer heavy discounts but threw some of the largest parties with many celebrity friends.

I got my cute outfit together and headed down to soho with my coworker and began the festivities. Upon arrival, we went straight to Michael Kors to check out the new collection (which was 40% off!!) then headed to J.Crew which had a champagne open bar ..... girl can never say no to that! After we jumped around from Zara, Prada, Mango, Guess?, Top Shop to Bloomingdale's which had the most amount of amusement. From a Live band to popcorn at the mini movie festival to mini champagne bottles for all the customers. The party atmosphere was in the air.

But form every store visited, it was Tommy Hilfiger that took the cake. With hot appetizers, popcorn, high end champagne and a live musical performance from some really cheesy all girl band-- the evening was just highly entertaining!

Overall the activities were a lot of fun and if it wasn't for the fact that I was on a major budget- I probably would have purchased the entire store. I hope this event will take place at least every year, as the uniting of consumers and retailers was a real confidence booster for the economy.

Dead Man's Bones (Ryan Gosling in a band..this is as hipster as it gets)

Everyone's favorite chick flick heart throb Ryan Gosling has been living this hipster life in LA for years now. Living and prowling around the downtown LA arts district, rocking a metronome beard, and now he is the lead singer and in alt-folk band, Dean Man's Bones.

The songs and cute and upbeat and live he has done some cool things with it, including getting the Los Angles Childern's choir for backup! When he started dating that tramp from "Nick and Nora make a wack ass playlist to whine to" i told myself we would never make it...but now i cant help but love him once again!

Pink's Show Will Go On

Earlier in the week I posted a video of Pink's performance at the VMA's. It turns out a performance like that is part of her act on her Funhouse Tour and she does the acrobatics on a regular basis to entertain her fans. During rehearsal for her tour it looks like she separated he shoulder but tweeted via Twitter "I separated my shoulder - it kinda feels like 50 angry invisible demon fairies are stabbing me, but the show will go on."

Good for her, thats how a real performer does it. Naturally the show will be altered around her injured shoulder but it might be a bummer for those going to her upcoming shows. She will be in Seattle today 9/16/09 and In Los Angeles on 9/18/09 then it's Off to Phoenix AZ on 9/20/09. Sorry West coast, you get an injured Pink.

Michelle Williams does Vogue

For the first time since the untimely death of Heath Ledger, Michele Williams has finally come out with a full interview in Vogue next month. With an accompanying dazzling photo spread Michele dives into questions about her work, grief and life as a single parent. One thing she does make clear is that she will not be talking about her relationship with her husband of three years or what issue's there were when they split. When reading any interview I have from Michele, I was can see the honesty in what she says- there is no PR machine behind her or a need to upgrade her career-- she always reads to be a normal person which happens to be an actress.

The chilling interviewing is very honest look at what her life has been for the past year and a half and come full of very many quotes which I am sure are all over the internet. In regards to her privacy, she was very direct with her views on how to handle media-- since she has been a constant in the tabloids.

"I didn't know what my boundaries were for a long time, which made interviews feel very unsafe. I can talk about grief, because that's mine; about single parenting; about trying to balance work and kids. But what I don't have to talk about is what happened between Heath and me in our relationship."

and although she wouldn't talk about the details of her previous life with Heath, she did let us in just a little, so that we could know that she indeed was completely in love with Heath.

"Brokeback Mountain was an unrepeatable moment in time, a very charmed time in my life. I was in love; I was in a movie I was proud to be a part of, and with a beautiful brand-new baby. Everything was good in that moment." After the split, she did everything to get away, including taking on a film in Sweden. "I just didn't want to be at home. Geography is a great solution for heartbreak."
With all that said, it is painfully obvious that the paparazzi attention Michele and Matilda now get is a direct result of the death of Heath-- and that is something that is not only difficult for her to understand but something that she has to explain to her daughter.

"Because he died—it's so hard to say it, now that it's a fact—it's because of this tragedy that there's more paparazzi. That is hard to be graceful and understanding about." Brooklyn was and remains difficult on a mundane level, too. At her local coffee shop, a little girl asked Williams, "What's her name?" "Matilda." The girl said to Matilda, entirely innocently, "What's it like being famous? Are you so sad that your daddy died like Michael Jackson?" "That girl was six," Williams says without rancor. Afterward, mother and child had a discussion about third-party attention. "It's because people really loved your daddy that they want to take your picture, to know you're all right" is what she tells Matilda. "My reaction to it is going to be her reaction to it," Williams says. "It's an OK model for her to see that her mom has boundaries. It's OK for me to be upset and to raise my voice. But it's an ongoing struggle. It's hard to be the man and the woman in that [paparazzi] situation. Heath always used to do that for us."

The interview goes on and on with a personal look at Michele's life, her newly found love and how through all these difficult times she is actually growing as a person and an actress. Her intelligence is obvious and her emotional depth appears to be never ending. The entire article along with pictures are a beautiful display, If you have a spare minute available- you should really check it out here or pick up the October issue of Vogue Magazine.

Can We Talk About Gaga ....

Now, I know I have not been the biggest fan of Lady Gaga's fashion choices in the past since most of them have been nothing but a Hot Mess, I have to make it a point to talk about her VMA monstrosities. You see although I get the fact that she is looking at things from an artistic concept, the fashion choices she makes tend to be great for art but absolutely horrible for fashion. Between covering her face as much as possible, wearing oversized hats or chest pieces and just an awkward choice of accessories-- almost everything she has work could not possibly ever be taken to seriously.

Although the music is great, I think that she is very close to jumping the line from artistic to ridiculous-- if she hasn't crossed it already. What do you think?? Does her fashion choices bring an extra push to the character she is now starting to play?? Is her dramatic call's for attention taking away or bringing to her performances??

Rachel Roy Overload

and I am Loving it !!!

So with Fashion week and VMA's in full swing here in NY, there has been a lot of interesting activities, parties and shows available to a lot of the general public. One of things that I caught onto very early on was the amount of PR the Rachel Roy is getting this season. Personally, I love it because she is an excellent designer that is finally getting her dues!! Rachel Roy overload is doing nothing wrong in my eyes and with her show done this weekend I wanted to go over a couple of things that I loved.

Macy's Window and Pop up shop:

Every morning on my walk to the office, I pass the Macy's windows. Some are great, some are charitable and others are disappointing. Rachel's windows have added a funky dinner party vine that show her aesthetic and style in one shot. In what I would call a hipster graffiti party- the Rachel Roy women is edgy, forward and in the know. The prints, choice of fabric and qualities are all very NY and I am in full embrace of the attitude. This display not only made me walk in to see the product but now has me saving for the dress on display! Overall the Fashion week timing along with great visuals got me to crave for more and had me in great anticipation for what she would show in the tents for Spring 2010.

(I LOVE that leopard low cut piece- I am going to have to save for it!!)

Spring 2010 after the jump

With pure femininity in mind, this was a collection that had many standard pieces in great qualities and colors. The use of minimalism was in full swing but she managed to still make the pieces with enough revealing cuts which not only make the clothing functional for day to day use but also allow for a touch of sexiness. With 2 different color groups we will get funky and a timid spring which everyone can use.

Love Love LOVE these pieces:

The Better Side Of The VMA's

With the VMA's over and the Buzz about all the BAD stuff that happened during the show, let's take few moments to check out some of the better moments of the VMA's. Pink's performance was great, This just sealed how dope she is that she can sing and do tricks while she's at it. The Michael Jackson tribute went off exquisitely, a special appearance by Janet sealed the deal. Her voice was a little on the rough side but you definitely cant knock the performance. Last but not least the Lady Ga Ga performance, say what you will about the fashion sense, but the performance was entertaining.

Fashion Si' or No'?

Rihanna hit up the 2nd Annual House Of Hype Directors Dinner at Hotel on Rivington last week in this Sequence Jasmine di Milo jumper. I am feeling those glasses! I can't pull them off but Rih Rih def does. Fashion Si' or No' ?? What do you think ???

Oh Kanye ....

Kanye, Kanye, Kanye ....

Why was he is full Hot Mess Mode yesterday??? Aside from the obvious Taylor Swift outburst, he was just all over the place. Let me break it down:

-- Night started off all sorts of wrong at home. What the fuck were both of these fools thinking when they started getting ready. First Kanye had a HORRIBLE Hair cut/fade. It was like a game of tetris on his head and I wasn't feeling it at all!! Then Amber Rose, smh .... had the tackiest leopard print body suit on. Now I don't know if this was painted on or not but it was soooooo cheesy. I understand she is supposed to be edgy but this was a total miss.

-- Red Carpet Nonsense: Kanye, my man. Why are you walking down the red carpet with a 1/2 empty bottle of Henessy??? Really?? Is that how big the problem with alcohol is that you need to walk down the red carpet with a bottle?? AND why are you smacking your girlfriends ass for the cameras?? that is just unnecessary.

-- Taylor Swift Drama: first of all, YOU WEREN'T EVEN NOMINATED FOR THIS CATEGORY. Why does he feel like he needs to be on stage for everything?? This poor 18 year old girl just won her first VMA and the moment was completely taken away by this idiot. I mean, blame it on the alcohol, really??? The choice to jump on stage was simply distasteful and rude. I don't know what else to say.

-- Live Blogging at home: Apparently after his little incident, he left the awards show and watched it at home, while blogging a bull shit apology which he later took down.

I don't know Yeezy, I am just disappointed in general. I thought he had grown out of this "its all about me" child phase. But I guess not.

side bar: Good job Beyonce on keeping it classy and inviting Taylor Swift back on stage to give a proper speech, even though I believe it was a 1/2 ass attempt for some good PR considering Kanye did jump on stage to say it was her video which should have won.

Fashion Fo-Pa!

It's one thing to wear a dress that someone else has previously worn at an event but it is a complete other thing to wear the same dress to the same event! Seriously, these stylist should be fired because Red Carpet dresses should be exclusive and someone seriously fucked up here. Now, with that said- who do we think looks better?? They both brought something very different to the dress so this might be tough. What do you think??

VMA Fashion

Alright kiddies, it's that time. The 2009 VMA's were last night and we had some good and some very bad fashion. Below are just a couple of the highlights (or low lights depending on how you look at it) And don't worry, I will touch on the Shakira/Pink same dress scandal on a different post.

1)Beyonce: Although this picture does not do this dress any justice, on screen you were able to see how fitted and beautiful it actually was. The low cut red mini was not only highlighted her figure with the low cut front but also showed off her fabulous legs with the short skirt. Overall it was a win.

2) Taylor Swift: Although she had all sorts of drama last night, little miss country pop managed to pull it together and not only pick a dress that is age appropriate but wear something that was gorgeous. It simply looked dazzling and for me was a highlight of the night.

3) Leighton Measter: Gossip Girl princess Leighton is starting to really come up on my fashion watch. I've noticed that she like to wear these short dresses with fabulous shoes and I am really digging it.

The Ugly:

1) Lady Gaga: I am sticking with the theory my roommate gave me, she must have been chocked up and given a black eye. Which is why she is wearing this get up. I know it's her thing to shock and be out of the box but this is just ridiculous.

2) Whitney Port: This dress looks like it was left overs from Project Runway-- in a bad way. The balance and proportions of this do not fit her body at all, it looks incomplete-- she needed to accessorise is it a little more and over all it's just ugly. For someone who just showed this week in the tents, she could have come a little harder.

3) Jennifer Lopez: Aye Dios Mio Mujer?? What were you thinking?? Now I know you have been off the red carpet for a minute but this dress is just a disaster. The fit is awful, velvet is not used to it's best ability and the color just drowns you. If this is what we have to look forward to going forward from you-- just stay home boo boo.
