TOP 10 Of 2010 - MUSIC

It has been a very very looong 2010. Thanks little baby Jesus there was enough good music to keep me sane through it all. I blogged about a lot of the gems but there are a few that i loved but never got around to giving a proper review. Below is my list of favorite records, with audio for stand out tracks :)! So let's just into it with number 10.....

#10 Rhianna "Loud"
I am not a huge Rihanna fan but this record really impressed me. I thought it was fun and sweet and really just fun to wrap up my year too. "Cheers" will be the song i play off of it long into the new year, like everyday Friday around 5:45PM to be exact.

"Cheers (Drink To That)"

#9 Cee-Lo Green "Lady Killer"
Cee-lo is one of the best out and this highly anticipate record came with some great hits! It's a fun record that front to back i loved and enjoyed singing along to. While "Fuck You" was for sure the song that brought any kind of attention to this release, it is his heart felt cover of Band of Horses "No One's Gonna Love You" that won me over.

"No One's Gonna Love You"

#8 Kings of Leon "Come Around Sundown"
I am a Kings of Leon stalker style fan and even though this record did not have any of the hit-maker magic that was sprinkled all over the last release, for the die-hard-stalker fans it was a nice gift. A record that gave back alil of the style and soul we loved from early on in their career. This is a release I can see being a hidden gem in their collection years from now. With the Gemest of the songs being Pick Up Truck.

"Pick Up Truck"

#7 Janelle Monae "The ArchAndroid"
Ms. Monae is a press darling that has always received great reviews and critical acclaim but on this record she really pushed the envelope and took her sound and her style into places that set her apart as a "cool R&B Singer" and into an force of an artist not to be under estimated. "Tight Rope was the smash single but "Cold War" was the stand out track.

"Cold War"

#6 M.I.A. "/\/\/\Y/\"
My girl! MIA can really do no wrong (right? no? just me?) and even though this song was horrible then great, then bad again, I think like every one of MIA's songs, albums and remix before it, it takes time to digest and appreciate. This album had more rage and fight and lust than the ones before it and because of this i can only imagine it took people that much longer to settle into. I am not excluded but once i got into it (per-usual) i was overwhelmed with the lyrics and the message and the call the arms! Favorite song? You guessed it, "Born Free."

"Born Free"

#5 Aloe Blacc "Good Things"
This is one of only 2 debut records to make my highly acclaimed (uh hmm yes) list and is well deserved. Aloe Blacc has been doing his thang with Stone Throws for some time and in that time crafted and delivered a beautiful throw back record that stands on it's own against liked minded artists like John Legend. I love the loose vocals and the saucy lyrics. The biggest single "I Need A Dollar" was heard as a sync on the HBO short lived drama "How To Make It In America," allow there are saying there will be a second season. Bah whatever with all that, I like Femme Fatale.

"Femme Fatale"

#4 Deerhunter "Halcyon Digest"
The hipster within me would not let me leave this title off my list. Although i skipped putting Warpaint on here, only because I didn't really play it out like this record. This Deerhunter record was totally unexpected and a real shinning light of indie rock hope. Weird and pretty dark but still it managed to get under your skin and make you love it. Just like their stand out track "Helicopter."

"Helicopter"

#3 Nicki Minaj "Pink Friday"
Yes i will admit i was anticipating this release. I was off and on Team Nicki so many times i lost count but in the final hour i decided i wanted to hear it and know for sure where i stood. Well i can say i love this record. Like love. I have thought it over a million times and as a female MC, you can't deny her. She is taking what everyone before her did, piling it up and using that shit as a step latter to take her above and beyond. I love her fight and her zest and her hunger and like all good rappers before her, her first record speaks of her thirst for more and her need to dominate.

"Romans revenge"

#2 Quadron "Quadron"
This was my find of all finds for 2010. The vocals, the production, the wanting of her lyrics, everything lined up for a perfect release. Ok I said back in March this was going to be my #1 pick for 2010 but A LOT of stuff came out this year! While i listened to this record none stop from March till about September it couldn't make it past a heavy hitting winter. That is where #1 comes in.

"Jeans"

#1 Kanye West "My Dark Twisted Fantasy"
I'm not gonna deny him of his shine, Kanye killed it. The whole half of 2010 i wanted Kanye all the time. I wanted to know what he was saying on twitter, saying to Taylor Swift and rapping on this record. The Good Friday releases made it that much worse, because every Friday i KNEW i could have new Kanye. I was totally spoiled by a constant stream of great music and art and videos from Mr. West. I am saving my pennies now for this tour which nothing on earth or beyond could keep me from going to. Yep, Kanye, you did it again.

"All Of The Lights"

So that is my list, didn't see your favorite record on there? Well it is my list sooo yea, haha. But the comment section is for you so sound off!

Quote of The Week

"When you're on the red carpet, you get word from up high: "Don’t say anything bad about Angelina Jolie because she’s a friend of the network" No one says anything bad [about celebrities] — they’re not going to say, "Your ass is too big, and you shouldn’t be wearing that color, and you look like a fool."You can’t say that so what’s the point of doing the red carpet? So the Fashion Police, when they came to me, they said let her do it. I don’t have to meet them on the red carpet. I don’t have to deal with Rihanna. Rihanna and I will never meet unless we both go clubbing together, and I don’t think we’ll go to the same clubs." - Joan River's on hosting E! Fashion Police

New Music: RYU - Did It To Myself

Scope out this track released by RYU form the Get Busy Committee. Christmas is around the corner and the sample is exactly the one I thought he'd used when I read his description. The track was produced by none other than Apathy himself. Sick back, sip some Jack (or soda) and Peep Game!

From Ryu: "here's a song i did a while back, after i got out of my deal with Warner bros. It was a messed up situation at the time but managed to work my way out of it. This song shares the thoughts i had about that situation. Produced by Apathy and sample Charlie Brown Christmas. I thought this would be the right time to release it. Enjoy!"

I Heart Crystal Renn

Every once in a while a model comes a long that I fall in love with for her look, size and over all demeanor. Crystal Renn has long been that model for this year. Here she is modeling for Fall 2010 issue of Paper Planes. You can see she has def lost a lot of weight (She initially made the scene as a plus size model- if you want to even call it that, she was a size 10) but is looking so gorgeous and very reminiscent of Janice Dickinson in the 80's.

I think she is great, What are your thoughts?? Click on the images to make them larger ....

Tron: The Costumes

By Now, I am sure almost all of you have gotten your Tron on this weekend and were amazed by how freaking awesome Olivia Wilde looked- now the costume designers behind her look are talking all about it. As if we weren't big fans already (from this post, or this one, or this one). Check out the video before of their little chat, spilling all the details:

Happy Monday Video: Fresh Prince I Whip My Hair Back and Forth

Happy Monday Folks! It's a gloomy day so shake the water out of your hair and whip it back and forth.
Here's a quick video I found funny of Will Smith in his old Fresh Prince of Bel Air day that was dubbed over with his daughters single "Whip my hair" Enjoy.

Throwback Thursday

This one is for my girl Yanna Beau ....

Pharrell Williams featuring Jay-Z: Frontin

Look of The Week

Olivia Wilde at The Tron Legacy Premiere is divine in this Gold sequence Pucci dress. She really is a roller coaster when it comes to her wardrobe- not wearing the best all the time but she really did well at this premiere absolutely a winner in my book.

NEW VIDEO : Femi Kuti on A Take Away Show

Femi Kuti | Africa for Africa |A Take Away Show #115 from La Blogotheque on Vimeo.

If you are not familiar with a take away show, the concept is to record impromptu performance from some of the worlds biggest artists. They have done everyone from the Kooks to Cold War Kids. The shoots are so great, often in really random locations like an alley or a bus.

They have kind of been gone for a min but recently posted this video of Femi Kuti performing on a roof top. I have no idea what city, maybe Paris? Yea wherever it is it is really gloomy which adds to the solemn nature of the song. Femi is performing "Africa for Africa" with a obviously very cold band and from his gut belts out the cry to unit is home content.

Elle Fanning for Interview Magazine

O M G .... Did I not just say at the beginning of this week that Elle Fanning is the next big thing??? Look at this amazing photo shoot she has done for Interview magazine. The great spread also comes with a wonderful interview which really gives you a taste of her personality, humble lifestyle and over all child demeanor because lets face it- she is 12 years old!! H&M Spring 2011 Look Book

H&M has released their Spring 2011 Look book and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised and delighted by some of their choices. Although the color palette is typical spring- I am not sure how I feel about the camel, white with only a touch of coral. It really left me with wanting more and what is up with those damn leather shorts!!! I refuse to give in to this so called "trend", they are obnoxious!!

Let me know what you guys think ....

January Jones for Versace

MAD Women indeed!!!

Fully disrobed pictures of January Jones for Versace Accessories are slowing making their way on the web. Shot by the amazing Mario Testino- this campaign is sure to be a hit among all. I mean, Fabulous bags and a naked January Jones- really how could you go wrong??

NEW MUSIC : Keri Hilson "Toy Soldier"

Ok very few of Keri's song from her new release No Boys Allowed have sparked any kind of interest from me. Not even the video with her dancing like ciara but naked, nope not at all. But this song, i like. Check it out and tell me what you think. It's called Toy Soldier and it is kinda cool.

Emma Stone covers W magazine

I like Emma Stone, I like her even more because she was just a regular girl that won a reality show on VH1 and now is an up and coming starlet that can actually act. Look forward to seeing more fashion spreads from her, especially since she has lost the red hair and is back to blond- I see some high fashion V Magazine esq pictures coming our way.

Whitney Port for Maxim

The Hills are Alive, This one is for the boys ....

Never really saw little miss innocent Whitney Port posing for Maxim but I can't say I am mad at her. Although she doesn't really give the best face- her body looks fabulous. I have seen Whitney in person before and have always thought she is a bit skinny but these pictures make her look beautiful and healthy. what do you guys think??
