#10 Rhianna "Loud"I am not a huge Rihanna fan but this record really impressed me. I thought it was fun and sweet and really just fun to wrap up my year too. "Cheers" will be the song i play off of it long into the new year, like everyday Friday around 5:45PM to be exact.
"Cheers (Drink To That)"
#9 Cee-Lo Green "Lady Killer"Cee-lo is one of the best out and this highly anticipate record came with some great hits! It's a fun record that front to back i loved and enjoyed singing along to. While "Fuck You" was for sure the song that brought any kind of attention to this release, it is his heart felt cover of Band of Horses "No One's Gonna Love You" that won me over.
"No One's Gonna Love You"
#8 Kings of Leon "Come Around Sundown"I am a Kings of Leon stalker style fan and even though this record did not have any of the hit-maker magic that was sprinkled all over the last release, for the die-hard-stalker fans it was a nice gift. A record that gave back alil of the style and soul we loved from early on in their career. This is a release I can see being a hidden gem in their collection years from now. With the Gemest of the songs being Pick Up Truck.
"Pick Up Truck"
#7 Janelle Monae "The ArchAndroid"Ms. Monae is a press darling that has always received great reviews and critical acclaim but on this record she really pushed the envelope and took her sound and her style into places that set her apart as a "cool R&B Singer" and into an force of an artist not to be under estimated. "Tight Rope was the smash single but "Cold War" was the stand out track.
"Cold War"
#6 M.I.A. "/\/\/\Y/\"My girl! MIA can really do no wrong (right? no? just me?) and even though this song was horrible then great, then bad again, I think like every one of MIA's songs, albums and remix before it, it takes time to digest and appreciate. This album had more rage and fight and lust than the ones before it and because of this i can only imagine it took people that much longer to settle into. I am not excluded but once i got into it (per-usual) i was overwhelmed with the lyrics and the message and the call the arms! Favorite song? You guessed it, "Born Free."
"Born Free"
#5 Aloe Blacc "Good Things"This is one of only 2 debut records to make my highly acclaimed (uh hmm yes) list and is well deserved. Aloe Blacc has been doing his thang with Stone Throws for some time and in that time crafted and delivered a beautiful throw back record that stands on it's own against liked minded artists like John Legend. I love the loose vocals and the saucy lyrics. The biggest single "I Need A Dollar" was heard as a sync on the HBO short lived drama "How To Make It In America," allow there are saying there will be a second season. Bah whatever with all that, I like Femme Fatale.
"Femme Fatale"
#4 Deerhunter "Halcyon Digest"The hipster within me would not let me leave this title off my list. Although i skipped putting Warpaint on here, only because I didn't really play it out like this record. This Deerhunter record was totally unexpected and a real shinning light of indie rock hope. Weird and pretty dark but still it managed to get under your skin and make you love it. Just like their stand out track "Helicopter."
"Helicopter"
#3 Nicki Minaj "Pink Friday"Yes i will admit i was anticipating this release. I was off and on Team Nicki so many times i lost count but in the final hour i decided i wanted to hear it and know for sure where i stood. Well i can say i love this record. Like love. I have thought it over a million times and as a female MC, you can't deny her. She is taking what everyone before her did, piling it up and using that shit as a step latter to take her above and beyond. I love her fight and her zest and her hunger and like all good rappers before her, her first record speaks of her thirst for more and her need to dominate.
"Romans revenge"
#2 Quadron "Quadron"This was my find of all finds for 2010. The vocals, the production, the wanting of her lyrics, everything lined up for a perfect release. Ok I said back in March this was going to be my #1 pick for 2010 but A LOT of stuff came out this year! While i listened to this record none stop from March till about September it couldn't make it past a heavy hitting winter. That is where #1 comes in.
"Jeans"
#1 Kanye West "My Dark Twisted Fantasy"I'm not gonna deny him of his shine, Kanye killed it. The whole half of 2010 i wanted Kanye all the time. I wanted to know what he was saying on twitter, saying to Taylor Swift and rapping on this record. The Good Friday releases made it that much worse, because every Friday i KNEW i could have new Kanye. I was totally spoiled by a constant stream of great music and art and videos from Mr. West. I am saving my pennies now for this tour which nothing on earth or beyond could keep me from going to. Yep, Kanye, you did it again.
"All Of The Lights"
So that is my list, didn't see your favorite record on there? Well it is my list sooo yea, haha. But the comment section is for you so sound off!
